Living at Gorselands, Clevedon
Gorselands in Clevedon offers a warm and welcoming home for older people living with dementia who require residential care and support. The home forms part of the Eqvitus Group and reflects the group’s philosophy of providing a “home that cares”, where every individual is valued, respected and supported to live a dignified and fulfilling life. This approach is guided by the Eqvitus CARER values of Caring, Accountability, Responsive teamwork, Excellence and Respect, which shape how residents are supported and how the team works together each day.
Life at Gorselands is centred around creating a comfortable and homely environment where residents feel relaxed, secure and truly at home. The service is a 30 bed registered residential dementia care home designed to support people living with memory loss and cognitive impairment in a calm and supportive setting. Residents benefit from pleasant bedrooms and welcoming communal areas where they can socialise, take part in activities or spend time with family and friends. The lounges and dining areas form the heart of the home, encouraging companionship and conversation, while the gardens provide a peaceful space where residents can enjoy fresh air and quiet moments outdoors.
Everything the team does is driven by the needs, abilities and aspirations of the people who live at Gorselands. Staff take time to understand each resident as an individual, learning about their life story, interests, preferences and daily routines so that care and support can be tailored around them. Through meaningful activities, supportive relationships and personalised care planning, residents are encouraged to remain active, engaged and connected to the people and experiences that matter most to them. Gorselands is supported by a dedicated and professional care team who are committed to delivering compassionate, respectful and person centred care. Staff come from a wide range of backgrounds and hold qualifications ranging from the Care Certificate through to Level 5 in Health and Social Care, supported by continuous training and professional development. This helps ensure residents receive high quality care from a knowledgeable and confident team who understand the needs of people living with dementia. The home also works closely with families, healthcare professionals and local services to ensure each resident receives the most appropriate care and support. By working in partnership with residents, their loved ones and medical professionals, care plans are regularly reviewed and adapted so that every individual continues to receive personalised support and the reassurance of a safe, supportive and caring home environment at Gorselands.
Meet our Manager: Deon Devis
I am an experienced manager with a strong background across a range of services, including complex needs, learning disabilities, older people and dementia care. Dementia care is my true passion and reflects my lifelong commitment to being a people person. First registered in 1999, I have spent the years since building my career, skills and expertise within the sector.
I have managed care homes at a local level and have also served as an Operations and Regional Manager within larger national organisations. I have been a licensed trainer in Behaviour Management and Safeguarding. Today, I particularly value the more hands on and personal approach that a residential care setting allows.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time in the countryside. As a former competitive horsewoman I now prefer to keep both feet firmly on the ground. I completed the Couch to 5K programme last summer and continue to prioritise my health and fitness as an active member of a local gym.
I also value time with my family and grandchildren, socialising with friends and enjoying local live music. More recently I have enjoyed travelling further afield, visiting Australia, India and Vietnam. While taking a short break from long haul trips, I currently have several Mediterranean adventures planned and am already looking forward to my next journey.
